Dead Reckoning


To plot a course line from a departure point: Correct the course from compass to magnetic to true, if necessary. Use the plotter to draw the line. Label the departure point as a fix and the line with course and speed, using the plotting conventions.

Plot a DR position every hour on the hour or with every change of course or speed. Use the 60D=ST formula to determine distance traveled.

Transfer distance from the latitude scale to the plotted course, using dividers.

Label the position with the DR symbol () and time of the position (at an angle).
